Commonwealth Games is a big sports and games event, in which elite sports personalities from Commonwealth of Nations participate. The Common Wealth Games have multiple sports events. The 19th Commonwealth Games is scheduled to be held in Indian Capital of New Delhi in October 2010.
Commonwealth Games is organized every four years and is the third largest multi-sport event in the world after Olympics and Asian Games. The Games are controlled by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) which also selects the host cities. There are 54 members in the Commonwealth of Nations and there are 71 teams participating in the Games. Many of the countries send separate teams like the Home Nations of the United Kingdom, British Crown dependencies of Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man, British overseas territories and Australian external territory.
The last Commonwealth Games was in Melbourne, Australia in 2006. The first edition of the games was in 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The next edition of Commonwealth Games will be held in 2014 at Glasgow, Scotland after New Delhi in 2010.
There are a total of 31 sports and 7 para-sports which are approved by the Commonwealth Games Federation. Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cycling, Diving, Gymnastics, Field Hockey, Lawn bowls, Netball, Rugby sevens, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Table tennis, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Wrestling are some of the sports items in Commonwealth Games.
