What You Need
- white cardstock cut to 5 ½” x 8 ½”
- scrap pieces of forest green cardstock
- forest green cardstock cut to 4 ¼” x 5 ½ “
- forest green cardstock cut to 1” x 5 ½”
- gray cardstock cut to 1 ½” x 5 ½”
- gray cardstock cut to 1 ?” x 1 ¼” (trim off corners to make tag shape)
- 12” silver cord
- household bleach, paper towel and Styrofoam tray
- pine bough, ‘happy' and ‘07' stamps
- green ink pad
- adhesive such as double-sided sticky tape or liquid glue
- hole punch
- paper trimmer
- scissors and ruler
- sponge
What You Do
- Fold paper towel into a pad of several layers. Lay pad on Styrofoam tray.
- Pour just enough bleach onto the pad to make it damp.
- Lightly press pine bough stamp on to the bleach-soaked towel.
- Stamp image on a scrap piece of green card stock. It will not show immediately. Allow it to dry until image is revealed. It may take practice to get the image to show the way you like. Not all colors of cardstock bleach the same. Match your shade of gray cardstock to the bleached image.
- Once you're happy with the image, use the bleach solution to stamp the bough image on the narrow strip of green cardstock. Allow to dry.
- Use a piece of sponge inked with green ink to brush the edges of the green and gray strips and the tag. This subtle shading gives the card depth.
- Stamp, write or print ‘happy 07' on the tag.
- Wrap silver cording around green strip and tie tag on.
- Glue green strip on gray strip, then glue complete strip to green cardstock.
- Glue card top to white cardstock folded in half.
Helpful Hints
- You can use a piece of green cardstock 8 ½ by 5 ½, rather than glue a piece of green cardstock onto a white card. However, just make sure the green cardstock is a light enough shade so your handwriting will be visible when you write your greeting inside.
- Precut white cards and envelopes are available at office supply stores.
- If you make a mistake on a piece of cardstock that will be glued onto another, just turn it over and use the other side!
- Use the bleach solution in a well-ventilated area. Be careful of spills on clothes and furniture—wear an old shirt and cover your work area with an old towel.
- Use a triangular makeup sponge to dab the ink on the paper—it's the right size, has a smooth surface and is inexpensive. Once the ink dries, you can reuse it with a different color ink.
Quick switch This card would also make a lovely Christmas card or even a sympathy card—just change the message.
